New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve was a hectic day! I ended up booking DJ 2 gigs in Las Vegas, one during the early evening and the other later at night to ring in the New Year.

The first Las Vegas DJ gig was a wedding reception. It was an outdoor reception held in the back yard of a Las Vegas home. The bride asked me to bring additional lights to help brighten the back yard area. Arriving early, I set up my Las Vegas DJ rig and hooked up the additional lights. The bridal party wanted clean RnB and hip hop. Most of the 75 people in attendance were from California. After entertaining for about 3 hours, I began to pack up. The bride approached me and asked me to play for another hour. Unfortunately, my next Las Vegas DJ gig started in about 2 hours and I was unable to stay longer.

Packing up, I rushed over to the Lucky Club Casino in Las Vegas for my next gig. This was going to be a great event. I always love to DJ and MC the start of the New Year! Initially, the manager asked me to play 70's music. Mentally, I questioned how appropriate that type of music would be. However, he's the boss so I started my 70's set. After a short while, I began to hear people grumbling about the music. Most of the crowd were mid 20's-mid 30's, mostly African-American and Hispanic. So, I started playing some old school hip-hop and rap. The crowd loved it! Goodbye 70's music. As the night wore on, I played current hip-hop and by the time midnight arrived the place was packed, dancing, partying and ready for the New Year!

The manager asked me to stay an extra hour. It really turned out to be a great event. I got home about 330 am and crashed. What a great ending to the year!
